What moiturizer can I use for my baby's hair?

My baby is 4 months old and her hair gets really dry. (african american baby) I am currently using shea butter on it but that seems to be leaving a residue. I was told that other baby products for a baby's hair may dry it out more and even damage the hair shaft. Are there any suggestions on what I could use? Her hair is currently curly and soft, just very dry scalp. Oh, I wash it about once a week. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I just use the Johnson %26amp; Johnson's Baby Lotion. It works really well. You also might want to try to wash her hair a bit more. The moisture from the water is really good for the scalp. Put the lotion on while the scalp is still wet, that way you lock in the moisture.

Johnson %26amp; Johnson has lots of products made special for babies.

I would not go any farther the johnson%26amp;johnson at this time

If you're talking about cradle cap (cradle crap as I like to call it), you can use Head and Shoulders. I have been using it on my 4 week old and it's working great.

Just don't get it in to her eyes...I had to be careful with that since I was used to the tearless stuff already.

Johnson %26amp; Johnson shampoo and baby oil

or you can get vasaline from walmart. it has a green top on it

(i dont think that you should wash it so often either)

you can try just regular hair grease like the brand softee or a grease that says carrot oil

You might get really good results with any of Arbonne's Baby Care products - they're really gentle and rinse away cleanly. If it is REALLY dry, I'd go with the Skin Conditioning Oil.

You probably know someone who sells Arbonne, but if not, you can follow the link.

Good luck -- and congratulations on that precious baby!

It sounds like she has cradles cap which is really common in babies so you should try and use a medicated shampoo for it. Use one made for baby's cradles cap or when my son had it we put baby oil in his hair then brushed it out. It may take awhile to go away but it is very common.

I am not an african american and I know that our hair is different but I used vaseline on my daughters hair. She has excema and even now at 2 years old I still have to put it on her head once in awhile. It's the only thing I found that does nothing but GOOD to her hair. It doesn't damage or leave residue or anything like that. If its really bad, I'll glob it on real thick and then give her a bath just to rinse the excess out. Otherwise I put it in when her hair is damp fresh out of the tub and then comb through it real easy to spread it out.

Vegetable oil! It seems weird, but it's mild, fragrance free, won't irritate skin and it's cheap!

How about trying old fashion Baby oil on her scalp at night, that is what I used to keep my kids from getting what they used to call cradle cap (dandruff in a sense)

I would ask at the pharmacy at Walgreens or some place like that Im sure they can give you some very good suggestions

Try Baby Love by SOFT-SHEEN CARSON!!..its for babies of color! it worked miracles for me

I tried lots of different things on my son's hair including grapeseed oil, baby oil, johnson %26amp; johnson's gel oil and nothing worked. My mother swore by the baby oil. Finally I tried a little grease that we use on my niece and that seemed to work the best. You have to just try different things until you find what works the best for her.
